Is Global Warming a Serious Problem?

While we were sharing our opinions during writing class, many of you expressed a concern for the environment. Some students said, "I am adamant that we need to stop pollution." Another student who traveled abroad said, "The United States is far dirtier than other countries." I would like to use this month's blog to share our opinions on the environment.

Assignment:
1.) Think about your opinion on the following question: How serious is global warming?
2.) Read the articles from these websites to gather reasons and supporting evidence.
http://teacher.scholastic.com/scholasticnews/indepth/globalwarming/index.htm
http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/kids/change.html
http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/kids/bigdeal.html
http://www.pollingreport.com/enviro.htm
New York Times Article

3.) Write a response that tells your opinion and reasons why you think global warming is or is not a serious problem. (Make connections to what we have learned in writing class!)

Remember:
+ All posts should be your BEST writing with no grammar or spelling errors.
+Read all posts before yours and comment on what you have read. Do you agree or disagree with your classmates?
+Be respectful and do not put down any student because of his or her opinion.

In my opinion, global warming has become an increasing problem in the United States and the world. One article stated, "Sea levels have risen by 10-25 cm." The change in sea levels will affect the habitats of many animals. Have we learned about the effects of changing habitats? I think so.

I believe that it is up to us to help our environment for future generations. Can you imagine your grandchildren living through an Atlanta summer that has increased by 10 degrees?

To help take a stand, be part of the widest action plan of world citizens against global warming and climate change.

To protest against climate change, on February 1st, yes, that is this Thursday, give the earth a 5 minute break from 7:55pm until 8:00pm.

Everyone should turn off all lights and electric facilities for 5 big minutes. Do it respecting your local time zone, therefore the demonstration will be active according to time zines around the world.

Help make a difference. It is up to us.

I believe that global warming is a big problem everywhere. The animals in the Arctic could be hurt by global warming because they aren't prepared for what could happen.

Also, people could be overcome by heat and suddenly just brekdown and fall over because of the intense heat.

Global warming may harm our planet beyond repair if we don't stop it.
Many animals especially in the arctic regions will be harmed by global warming like polar bears who are dying due to their environments lack of protection against the sun and it's heat.

Global warming is a serious problem. Some people like to live in cold weather and if they want that then they should be able to get to. I think that if global warming doesn't stop soon then the future world will be a complete mess.

I believe global warming is a major issue in the world. It is effecting ecosystems.Things are not how they used to be and need to get better. Energy is being let out and making things like global warming happen. Green house gases (example: you drive cars) are making our air warmer. Which probaly means global warming. So next time you go to the pool and your dying to jump in because of heat think of one of the reasons why it might be so hot.

Global warming could effect anyone, any time, anywhere. People
on the equator are already very hot, and if they recieve any more heat, they would die! And in the
Arctic,(like Taylor said)animals
wouldn't know what to do in such a dramatic change of temperature.

I am definatly going to do what Ms.Kane said to do and strongly
encorage othrers to do the same.
You just need to wake up, people!
No fairy is going to swoop down and make world problems solved. We need to take a stand and do something!!!!!

I believe that global warming is affecting our world. Have you ever been in a desert? It's so hot and if we don't protect our environment, everthing could be surrounded by intense heat and overpower us.

Just picture life in a desert, so hot and humid and you, swetting yourself a hot river. Life might be like that if we don't act now and take a stand.

I believe that because we were the ones that made the mess of global warming we need to fix it. How would you like it if during winter the temperature was as hot as a normal summer day?

Also my whole family have been worring a ton about polor animals becoming extint because of all of the ice is melting and those animals don't have the skills to survive in such heat. There are lots of articles out there about polar bears becoming sick and dying. Soon we won't be able to live in this kind of heat ether!

People have to start picking up trash, turning off lights, and do our best to stop litter. Who needs to watch TV or play on the computer every second? NO ONE!!!

So help out animals and people and make a difference!

I believe that we started destroying this planet but we have no way to fix it. So we must make a stand and stop factories from producing so much smoke. The only way to fix it we must recycle everything so the ozone layer doesn't die and if that happens we all might die from the tense heat.

Thanks Mrs. Kane's class for your wonderful responses. I really liked how Annie agreed with Taylor's response and included that in her comment. Great job using the persuasive strategies, too! I can't wait to read more!

"In my opinion, global warming is a very, very bad thing that is going on right now. Who would have ever thought that our technology could cause so much damage to our earth? People need to stop polluting, start car pooling, recycle, and stop using up our electricity. For example, all of the polluting is causing the ozone hole to get bigger. If the ozone layer gets to where the whole world isn't covered we would all have to stand under a roof the rest of our lives or where a coat."

I believe that Global Warming is a huge problem because animals in cold places may be hurt because they dod not know what is going to happen to them.

We can help by taking a stand and maybe write a persuasive letter so that other people will agree with you so all of yall can join and help save the environment

I believe that global warming is causing problems to our world. The increase in climate will change the way the plantet looks. In some places the weather may be better because it is getting warmer. In the North and South Poles, the ice is melting and the oceans are rising. It is up to us to save our planet.

Many scientist disagree about how serious global warming is, but I think it is a serious problem.

There are several ways to help save the world from global warming. First, turn off lights when you leave a room. Next, Ride your bike or walk to school instead of taking the bus or riding in a car. Lastly, I would like to recommend wearing a sweater to stay warm instead of turning the thermostat higher.

These are all things you can do to help our environment.

I believe that global warming has become a big problem.I believe that it has come to us to fix it by cleaning up the enviroment.By that I mean people can pick up trash, people can turn off lights when not needed,or by simply turning off the water when not using. By not using all this power people do not have to burn coal. Polluted air dose not go into the sky, leaving more fresh air to breath. So take a stand and do what you can.

I believe we should put a stop to globel warming and make a difference. We need to do something quick before something happens to our world! If we dont act now our world could be in danger and our ansestors and grandchildren could be in danger from this teribbl disaster too.So lets take a stand and make a difference. Its up to us so lets take a stand.

I believe that pollution dirties the earth. Global warming raises the temperature of the earth causing icebergs to melt, the ocean water to rise and animals to loose their homes and die. We should be more responsable and take care of the earth by not littering and by concerving energy.

One way people can make global warming worse by building more factories that pollute the air. The smoke from factories can sometimes kill people with asthma or other breathing problems. These people can't move anywhere safe for them to breathe if we keep building factories.

In order to save the air, people need to make cars and other things that don't cause pollution.

Global warming is definetley human responsibility. Besides, it all makes sense, Humans polute from their cars, therefore it damages the O-Zone, then to much heat from the sun breaks through the O-Zone so the Polar Ice Caps melt and 10-25 cm increase th sea level. If we don't fix what we have damaged, our grand children and great grand children are going to have to pay the price.

Global warming is a huge problem in the United States and even the world. Many world leaders are very stressed with the huge problem of global warming. If global warming occurs many towns/cities like Times Square will be flooded and destroyed.
I believe that if many people all recycle and turn off their lights to save energy mabe some of our great grandchildren will be saved by global warmings effects on the world.
So take your stand and start caring for your envirment. It's up to us to save our world and our family in the future. Can you take the chalenge?
